Meet Indy
An unstoppable detection dog with endless energy
Indy is the most energetic and enthusiastic dog you will ever meet. She arrived at Mankwe in March 2022 when she was just 1½ years old and has been keeping everyone on their toes ever since.
With one of the best detection noses in the K9 unit, Indy and her handler Tsepho have become an unbeatable team. Her exceptional scent detection skills have helped locate carcasses and identify areas where poaching incidents have occurred.
Indy never seems to tire. She thrives on attention, fuss and, above all else, her beloved Kong toy. She will do almost anything to retrieve it and, despite her boundless energy, she is always polite enough to bring it straight back for another throw.
She has become a great companion to Hunter, who has grown very protective of her… when he can actually catch her.
Life on the reserve presents challenges too. Indy struggles with the spear grass found across Mankwe and requires regular washing and grooming to ensure no sharp spears have penetrated her skin and caused infection. Keeping her still long enough for grooming can be difficult, however, as she would much rather be working.
