Meet Willow
A rescue dog with a remarkable second chance
Willow is the latest rescue to join the K9 family. She was found shortly after Christmas 2021 running along the reserve's internal fence line. We believe she may have been a poacher's dog that became separated during the New Year fireworks.
After spending days surviving alone in the bush, fending off baboons and searching for food, the team finally managed to gain her trust and bring her to safety.
When Willow arrived, she was covered in more than 400 ticks and was so thin that every rib was visible. At the time, she trusted only other dogs, but she has since grown into a confident and affectionate member of the team.
As a Pointer and Black Labrador cross, Willow has a natural talent for tracking blood. She is being trained to help locate wounded animals following poaching incidents.
Willow remains the life and soul of Nkombi — curious, adventurous and loved by both her human and animal family.
